Work Tasks
- Plan all the details of formal or informal, large or small weddings
- Help the bride, groom, and their families make decisions about a wedding
- Give advice about wedding plans, such as gowns, tuxedos, trousseau, invitations, guest list, gift register, ceremony, flowers, musicians, reception, caterer, photographer, and etiquette
- Calculate wedding costs and keep within a budget
- Work for large department stores, bridal shops, themselves (self-employed)
- Work with brides and their families, wedding clothes, invitations, florists, musicians, photographers, caterers; car, tent, and furniture rental companies; telephones and computers, order forms, and brochures and catalogs
Salary, Size & Growth
- $40,000 average per year ($19.25 per hour)
- A medium occupation (57,000 workers in 2010)
- Expected to grow moderately (1.6% per year)
Education/Training
- Minimum for Entry: Experience in planning weddings and other events
- Employers Prefer: A 4-year degree
- Skills/Courses: Courses in accounting, budgeting, marketing, bookkeeping, and small business management.
