Crafts & Related Profile
Betsy Scott is a cabinetmaker. She works for herself creating one-of-a-kind furniture pieces by setting up and operating a variety of woodworking machines and using various hand tools to build and repair wooden cabinets, tables, dressers, and chairs. She studies blueprints or drawings of articles to be constructed or repaired, and plans the sequence of cutting or shaping operations to be performed. She enjoys creating new designs and making a personal connection with her customers. She also enjoys her freedom to create when she wants and not having to work a traditional 40-hour week. She dislikes keeping up with business-related activities such as filing taxes, keeping up computerized mailing lists, and billing customers.
