Medical Diagnosis & Treatment Profile

Photo of John Rising DeerJohn Rising Deer is an emergency medical technician-paramedic (EMT). His job duties include driving specially equipped emergency vehicles to the scene of emergencies; determining the nature and extent of a patient's injury or illness while also trying to determine whether the patient has pre-existing medical conditions; and giving the appropriate emergency care according to strict procedural guidelines. As the senior EMT, he is also responsible for making sure the emergency vehicle is properly stocked and for submitting incident reports. He enjoys performing a needed public service, working with other medical professionals, and receiving recognition from patients and their families. He feels he is not well paid for what he does and is concerned about health risks he is exposed to on the job.
