Provides 8th and 9th Graders with Short Practice for the ACT



PreACT 8/9 is appropriate for 8th or 9th grade students.

State, District, and School customers, Educational Agencies, and Gifted and Talented programs can order PreACT 8/9.

PreACT 8/9 is available in paper and pencil test mode.

If schools are administering the PreACT for their 10th grade students, we recommend they continue to administer the PreACT. If they would like to administer a similar assessment to lower grades (8/9), we recommend the PreACT 8/9.

Test Structure

Yes, PreACT 8/9 aligns to the same 1-36 ACT score scale, with 30 being the highest possible PreACT 8/9 score.

For PreACT 8/9 students take the ACT Academy in-platform diagnostic to get valuable resources to improve on areas of weakness.

Yes, PreACT 8/9 covers English, Math, Reading and Science. The PreACT test length is the same as the PreACT (approx. 2 hours, 10 minutes) with slightly fewer items in some subject areas.

PreACT 8/9 is ordered through ACT’s College and Career Readiness Information System (CCRIS).

PreACT 8/9 will be available for ordering July, 15 2019. The PreACT 8/9 testing window will open 10/14/2019.


The following reports will be provided:

  • Individual Student Reports
  • Educator Report
  • Item Response Analysis, Student List Report, Early Intervention Roster, and Data Files

PreACT 8/9 report turnaround time will be within 4 weeks of receipt of the answer documents.

PreACT 8/9 reports will be provided in paper format. The data file will be provided on CD.

Yes, just as customers do for the PreACT, they will be able to retain the test booklet for use with the Item Response portion of the reports.

PreACT 8/9 Student Reports will include predicted PreACT score ranges (along with predicted ACT score ranges) and a new Indicator of Progress toward the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC).

PreACT 8/9 will have norms in year two for grades 8 and 9.
