Overview

  • PreACT 8/9 is most appropriate for 8th or 9th grade students
  • PreACT is most appropriate for 9th or 10th grade students
  • PreACT Secure is most appropriate for 10th grade students

State, District, and School customers, Educational Agencies, and Gifted and Talented programs can order PreACT 8/9 and PreACT. PreACT Secure is only available to states and districts at this time.

PreACT 8/9 and PreACT are available in paper and pencil test mode. PreACT Secure is available as an online test only (with limited paper and pencil accommodations).

Test Structure

Yes, PreACT 8/9, PreACT, and PreACT Secure align to the same 1-36 ACT score scale, with 30 being the highest possible PreACT 8/9 score and 35 being the highest possible PreACT or PreACT Secure score.

Yes, PreACT 8/9, PreACT, and PreACT Secure all cover English, math, reading and science. The test duration of each test is slightly shorter than the ACT with slightly fewer items in some subject areas.

Ordering

PreACT 8/9 and PreACT are ordered through ACT’s College and Career Readiness Information System (CCRIS). Orders for PreACT Secure will go through the Common Approach to Sales (CATS) system.

PreACT 8/9 and PreACT materials are available for order beginning in May. PreACT 8/9 and the PreACT testing window is September - June. PreACT Secure testing is available in the spring only and materials may be ordered starting in August.

Reporting

The following reports will be provided for PreACT 8/9 and PreACT:

  • Individual Student Reports
  • Educator Report
  • Item Response Analysis, Student List Report, Early Intervention Roster, and Data Files

The following reports will be provided for PreACT Secure:

  • Individual Student Reports
  • Educator Report

PreACT 8/9 and PreACT reports will be provided in paper format. The data files will available in the online reporting tool. PreACT Secure reports will be provided in the online reporting tool only.

For PreACT 8/9 and PreACT, customers may retain the test booklet for use with the Item Response portion of the reports. Due to the secure nature of PreACT Secure, no items will be released and all accommodated paper tests will need to be returned to ACT.

PreACT 8/9 Student Reports will include predicted PreACT score ranges. Reports for all three will include predicted ACT score ranges and an Indicator of Progress toward the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC).
