Meet the Speakers

Kevin McMullin

Collegewise Founder & Chief Education Officer

In 1999, Kevin started Collegewise with the core belief that students should be at the center of their college application process. He knew that with the support and guidance of a trusted advisor, students could experience a less stressful and ultimately more successful experience. Where did he meet his first few students? His little kitchen table in Orange County, California. Since his humble beginnings, he has grown Collegewise into the nation’s most trusted provider of college admission counseling, with over 28,000 students helped. Kevin is currently the Chief Education Officer of Collegewise, overseeing our counseling and tutoring programs.

For more than 25 years, Kevin has reached hundreds of thousands of people as a trusted admissions speaker and author on the topic of smarter, saner college planning. He wrote and published the admissions book “If the U Fits: Expert Advice on Finding the Right College and Getting Accepted.” Kevin graduated from UC Irvine with majors in English and history and has a college admissions counseling certificate from UCLA. Kevin admits that while he knows a lot about how to parent teens during the college admissions process, he seems to be significantly less knowledgeable about how to parent his own 7- and 5-year-old boys!

Christopher Logan

Collegewise College Counselor & Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Christopher has been in the admissions space for the last 10 years, wearing multiple hats, including counseling students on college, developing standardized test prep curricula & questions, and publishing white papers on admissions topics (check out one on the recent SCOTUS ruling here). Christopher counsels with the goal of helping students and parents alike by reducing their stress while being both honest and compassionate about the admissions process. Christopher’s students have gotten into Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard, and Yale, to name a few.

Beyond that, Christopher’s accolades include being a champion ballroom dancer, a National Merit Scholar, and a two-time recipient of Yale’s Light Fellowship, all while fluently speaking French, Spanish, and Korean. So whether it’s developing college lists, executing a perfect solo spot volta while doing the Samba, or working through those maddening SAT math questions about two trains departing different stations in different time zones at different speeds with different cargos hurtling towards each other on intersecting x/y axes of indeterminate length, Christopher has you covered.

Sam Joustra

Collegewise College Counselor & Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Sam is a thoughtful and supportive counselor with a desire to help students find joy in self-discovery so they can gain acceptance to a great fit college. Before joining Collegewise, Sam spent ten years working in college admission, first at Hampshire College, then Vanderbilt University, and then the University of Michigan where she read 2800 applications.

Sam earned her Bachelor's in French and English from Goucher College and then her Master's in Higher Education with an emphasis in enrollment management from Vanderbilt University. She’s an active member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and the Michigan Association for College Admission Counseling (MACAC), where she was awarded the Rising Star Award during their annual conference.

When she’s not counseling, you might find Sam updating her color-coded spreadsheets (please ask her about the 590 restaurants she cataloged and visited while living in Nashville), daydreaming about her next travel adventure (and making a corresponding color-coded itinerary), and eating Jeni's ice cream.
