Webinar: What Every Student Should Know About Picking a Major or Career Path

Thursday, February 16, 2023

6:00 p.m., CT

Gain insights from an industry-leading career coach on what teens should know NOW about career planning!

About this Session

Are you ready to chart your course for career success? Though many professionals turn to career coaches after they are in their careers and seeking a change, we're bringing you resources to start off on the right foot, right now.

Join ACT and Coaching for Everyone’s Dr. Victor McGuire as we explore what majors and career paths are best suited to you. We’re taking you behind the scenes to give you the tips, tools, and insights to help guide your college, career, and workforce journey!

Through storytelling and active engagement, teacher-and-professor-turned-career-growth-mentor Dr. McGuire will share the key lessons he’s learned about finding the “right” career path for each student. From his formative years spent in a boys home—to his current seat in the boardroom, Dr. McGuire has always had a passion for helping others—particularly students.

Dr. McGuire will share his insights from his own journey leaving home at age 11, and against all odds, creating a path to success that has included serving as a teacher, professor, author, nonprofit creator, actor, and now entrepreneur coaching employees at companies like Lululemon. You don’t want to miss this unique opportunity to get career coaching on your future career today!

What you’ll take away from this event:

  • a better understanding of how to find a fulfilling career path;
  • top tips for aligning your major to a career;
  • an exploration of career pathways that don’t include going to college straight out of high school; and
  • finding your future career “fit”— now!

Why you should attend this event

  • Aligning your skills and interests with a potential major now can help you avoid the "major swirl". You'll avoid the possible extra semester(s) and costs associated with changing college majors midstream.
  • Understanding your career paths and possibilities now helps you prepare and plan for joining a quickly evolving job market with never-before-imagined and emerging career opportunities.
  • Perceiving and planning for your career choice as a journey—versus a linear path—can help to decrease some of your anxiety and trepidation around feeling like you need to know exactly what you want to do with your life right now.
