4 Tips to Building Your College Knowledge
Start preparing for college by educating yourself on the process.
Here are a few tips to keep in mind as you begin to plan for your future:
- Pay attention when college representatives visit your school or nearby college fairs. It’s never too early to meet with college reps about your goals and interests—and it’s never too early to ask questions.
- Read about college. The more you read, the better you’ll understand how the admissions process works. Get some reading materials from your counselor, including brochures and catalogs sent to the counseling office, as well as a list of college websites. Start bookmarking websites of colleges you’re interested in and check back frequently so you can add your favorite options to a college list.
- Gather information about financial aid. Understanding the ins and outs of financial aid can be a daunting task, but it’s important that you know the steps you need to take in order to pay for college. Start by reviewing our Financial Aid FAQs article
- Start compiling a list of scholarships. Search online for scholarships through national databases and talk to your counselor about local scholarship opportunities. Note deadlines and application requirements.
