AUTO SERVICE STATION MANAGERS are responsible for the day-to-day operation of an automobile service station. They determine the operating hours, number of workers needed and their duties, and prices for products and services. Auto service station managers hire and train workers. They perform customer service activities, and assist in the sale of products. Auto service station managers reconcile cash with gas sales, and make sure that all financial reports and records are in order. They order, and inventory sales merchandise, such as gasoline, oil, tires, auto cleaners, automotive accessories and parts, and various other items.

Entry Requirements

Most AUTO SERVICE STATION MANAGERS begin their careers in lower level positions and as they gain experience and ability are promoted to higher levels. Knowledge of management principles and practices is the essential requirement for management positions and is usually gained through work experience. A high school diploma is usually required, and a post-secondary degree is preferred for those who wish to advance. Most managers who have post-secondary education hold an associate or bachelor's degree in liberal arts, social science, business, or management.
