Topics of Study

This broad major is intended to orient you to teacher education as a whole. You will focus on the theory and practice of learning and teaching; the basic principles of educational psychology; the art of teaching; the planning and administration of educational activities; school safety and health issues; and the social foundations of education.

Degrees

• A certificate program may qualify individuals to become a paraprofessional and work as a teacher's aide or you can transfer to a four-year college to complete a bachelor's degree.
• A bachelor's degree plus additional training is necessary to enter most occupations in this field, such as teaching specific subjects, for instance English or science; school administration, educational assessment, evaluation, and research, and teaching those with special education needs.
• A graduate degree is required to teach in higher education.
