MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIANS assist engineers in research, design, development, testing, and manufacturing of industrial machinery and consumer products. They use the principles and theories of science, engineering, and mathematics to solve technical problems in research and development, manufacturing, sales, construction, inspection, and maintenance. Some mechanical engineering technicians work in quality control inspecting products and processes, conducting tests, or collecting data.

Entry Requirements

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN job applicants are required to have a two-year degree in engineering technology. Training is available at technical institutes, junior and community colleges, extension divisions of colleges and universities, vocational-technical schools, and through the armed services. Graduates of programs accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) are generally recognized to have achieved competence in the mathematics, science, and technical courses required for this occupation.
