Are TI-84 Calculators Allowed on the ACT?
Yes, TI-84 calculators are allowed on the ACT. However, some TI calculators are not permitted, including:
- All model numbers that begin with TI-89 or TI-92
- TI-Nspire CAS
(Note: The TI-Nspire (non-CAS) is permitted)
Pro Tip: Remember the “Plug-in Mindset”
Remember the plug-in mindset—a strategy that helps you test answers more efficiently without wasting too much time.
Drawn to Scale
When you’re low on time to calculate, estimate! Use the “drawn to scale” strategy to make smart guesses on geometry questions.
Hidden Menus - Absolute Value
Learn how to access the absolute value function to answer these questions quickly and accurately.
Hidden Menus - Fractions
Open the hidden fraction menu to simplify, convert and compare fractions in just a few steps.
Hidden Menus - Matrices
Don’t let matrices rattle you. Learn how to use the matrix command to tackle these questions quickly and keep moving on test day.
Algebra - Storing Values
Storing values keeps you from re-typing the same numbers over and over. Practice this simple move to save time and reduce errors.
Algebra - Numeric Equation Solver
The Numeric Equation Solver helps you test values and solve complex equations more efficiently.
Algebra - Graphing
Use graphs to show what you know! When you can visualize the function, you can more easily see patterns and identify solutions.
What's in it for you?
- Learn Desmos skills and strategies to maximize your time and best show your math knowledge.
- Use Desmos to explore and compare algebraic, numeric, and graphical representations of test questions.
- Consider how Desmos can help you predict and verify your intuition on a variety of question types.
Factoring Quadratics
Graph equations in different forms, find points of interest, and adjust your window settings.
Evaluating Function Notation
Evaluate function notation while learning how to type in different math expressions, reference functions in multiple locations, and interpret a graph.
Square Root Evaluations
Evaluate expressions involving square roots and fractions using efficient keyboard shortcuts, making conjectures, and testing your thinking about equivalent expressions.
Expanding Polynomials
Expand polynomials with confidence by verifying your algebraic intuition using both graphs and numerical evaluations of a problem and learning to understand in-tool error flags.
Solving Systems of Equations
Determine the solution to a system of equations by plotting the equations in various forms, and identify and interpret the key features of their graphs.
